Recognizing that many New York residents are facing tougher economic times and that many working poor households are facing decreases in income and benefits, Ariva believes that we can help improve the financial lives of our clients by: • Helping households use the money they do have more effectively • Creating greater opportunities for asset accumulation • Preventing asset-stripping in low-income communities • Promoting economic vibrancy in vulnerable communities through entrepreneurship |
|
Our approach to helping clients achieve greater financial security is simple: • Creating innovative products and services leads to greater access for unbanked and underserved communities creating hope which will help clients achieve self-sufficiency |

Ariva is proud to have achieved the following: • As a part of the NYC Office of Financial Empowerment initiative, we opened 76 $ave NYC (the largest by all of the participants) accounts (a tax-time savings product designed to encourage EITC refund recipients to automatically deposit part of their refund into a savings account). • We created with our bank partner a debit card access account for 154 clients. • Since 2005, when we introduced financial education, we have offered over 75 classes and one-on-one counseling sessions. • We conducted neighborhood and financial services usage surveys with our bank partner in 2003 and 2004. • We have prepared taxes for over 7,935 tax filing clients and returned a total of $10,396,019 in total refunds into the community. • We learned that for the 2008 tax season, we were ranked 25th by the IRS amongst all the VITA sites in the nation and 57th when including AARP and military VITA programs for the most tax returns prepared.
